Julie Thomson's 2011 Iron Woman Challenge

Julie had not swam or ran for years when she set herself a challenge for 2011, in fact her own words were " I couldn't run the length of myself". So from a standing start Julie began training and is now three quarters of her way through the challenge!

The challenge consisted of four separate events.

1. Swimathon: swim 5 km/ 200 lengths of Portobello pool in April. Which she completed in 1hr and 59 seconds!

2. Edinburgh Marathon: Julie was a member of the "Porty Mums" relay team in May and completed the "glory run" ie approx 5 miles in 46 minutes.

3. Portobello Open Water Swim Festival: Julie finished the 2km (quite wavy!) swim in 53 minutes.

4. Aviemore Half Marathon: The finale is still to come in October - finish time to be confirmed....

Julie completes her 2011 Challenge!

"It was amazing and really enjoyed it, the last 3 miles were really brutal as we went a lot faster than our training runs, however we did manage to do it in 2.02.19 which I am delighted with".
